Man City’s all-time leading scorer, Sergio Aguero, wore the number 10 for six years at the Etihad after switching from No. 16.
Edin Dzeko, Shaun Goater, Giorgi Kinkladze, Asa Hartford, and Francis Lee are among some other Man City greats to have donned the No. 10 shirt over the years.
Cherki has big shoes to fill at Man City following the summer departure of club legend Kevin De Bruyne, widely regarded as one of the greatest playmakers of his generation. However, he is prepared for the challenge and hopes to improve his game under Guardiola.
“This is a dream for me,” Cherki said in June following confirmation of his move to Man City. “Honestly, to be joining a club like Manchester City and have the opportunity to make the next step in my career here is something very, very special.
“I have worked so hard for this all my life. I adore this sport and can’t wait to grow with Pep and his backroom staff in Manchester.” Everyone knows how good City is—they have been so successful for many years now. I want to accept the responsibility of assisting the team in maintaining its winning streak.”
I would only leave Lyon for a project in which I truly believe, and everything about the city suggests that I can improve my game and contribute to the team’s future success.
I can’t wait to demonstrate my abilities to City fans. If Cherki makes his Premier League debut on Saturday in Man City’s first game of the 2025–26 season against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the club’s supporters could see him play in his new No. 10.
The 22-year-old, whose birthday is this Sunday, signed a five-year contract with the Citizens for a reported £34 million when he arrived from Lyon in June. At the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, Cherki teamed up with his new teammates and wore the No. 29 jersey.
